An ambitious redesign for a highly visual travel guide
About NYC.fr
NYC.fr is a French-language travel guide dedicated to New York City. Published by F5 Media, the site offers a rich and immersive editorial approach, designed to assist travelers in preparing their trip with practical, visual, and regularly updated content.
Why contact us
The project aimed to completely redesign the site to give it a new visual and editorial dimension. The mockups were created by an external graphic designer, Maud Rubeaud, which involved significant integration work to faithfully translate the imagined universe while ensuring a fluid and sustainable editing experience.
Expected Performance
One of the major challenges was to offer a highly visual interface, largely driven by images, while allowing the editor to easily evolve the content over time. The site needed to remain simple to manage despite the presence of numerous photos, varied editorial layouts, and a constant need for updates.
Challenges and Constraints
The main challenge lay in faithfully translating demanding external mockups, with a high level of finish in the integration. It was also necessary to design a flexible enough structure to allow the site to evolve independently for several years, without losing the graphic coherence or the originally defined identity.
Project Stages
Custom integration work
Based on the provided mockups, we carried out significant integration work to precisely respect the graphic intentions, visual rhythms, and editorial hierarchy of the project. Particular attention was paid to the flexibility of the templates so that the numerous visuals could be easily renewed without altering the layouts.
Evolvable editorial structure
We designed a content architecture built to last, with reusable blocks and easy-to-maintain editorial compositions. The goal was to give the editor real autonomy in evolving the site, on highly illustrated pages, while preserving the overall coherence of the experience.
Advanced integration with Gutenberg
The project relied on advanced use of Gutenberg, GenerateBlocks, and GeneratePress Elements to add sidebar blocks and inject synchronized compositions directly into the content. This setup proved particularly effective: several years after launch, the site continues to evolve independently while remaining fully faithful to the initially conceived identity.
